Spicer Lake Nature Preserve
Nature Preserve in New Carlisle, IN
Spicer Lake Nature Preserve, located near New Carlisle, Indiana, is a serene 320-acre wetland area offering over six miles of trails through diverse habitats, including forests, old fields, and two small kettle-hole lakes. The preserve features a quarter-mile boardwalk and the Pfeil Family Trail, a crushed limestone path leading to the Stankus Observation Deck over a buttonbush swamp. It’s a prime spot for birdwatching, photography, and nature walks, especially during spring and fall migrations. The preserve also provides educational programs for schools and a nature center for visitors. Please note that fishing and boating are prohibited to maintain the area’s ecological integrity.
